Mong Hsu

The town of Mong Hsu is situated in the Loilen district of Shan State and it was here that the company’s first forays into mining started in 1992 using simple artisanal mining methods. There was no machinery imported into Myanmar at that time, hence the operation was very labor intensive.

Today, the Mong Hsu mine shaft is 120 meters deep and the tunnels at the bottom of the shaft span across a 29-acre plot following the rock veins. The mine uses the shaft mining method to operate. Typically, rubies from Mong Hsu will undergo heat treatment to reach their highest potential, and the largest market for Mong Hsu rubies is Thailand.

Mogok

With the success of the Mong Hsu mine, Ruby Dragon expanded its ruby mining operations to Mogok in 1996. Today, the Mogok operation consists of three joint-venture projects with the Ministry of Mines. These include the 67-acre Baw Ba Tan Mine, which has a workforce of 200 people and a shaft depth of almost 400 meters. Meanwhile, the company also boasts the 104-acre Dat Taw Mine in the Mogok area, as well as the 20-acre Shwe Taing mine.

Mogok, also known as the Valley of Rubies, is famous for its rich mines that yield many rare and precious gemstones. The rubies extracted from Mogok are highly prized and treasured around the world, and the combined mines produce some 15 tons of raw materials and 900 carats of rubies per day.
